DARLING, Miranda

Miranda Darling began her career as a fashion model in Paris and London, then went on to read English and Modern Languages at Oxford University.  She travelled widely to countries such as Russia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Namibia and Indonesia before returning to Australia to complete a Masters in Strategic Studies and Defence.  Her first Stevie Duveen thriller novel The Troika Dolls was published by Allen and Unwin in 2010.  Stevie’s next adventure The Siren’s Sting was published in September 2011 by Allen & Unwin.

DARMODY, Sarah

Sarah Darmody published her first work of non-fiction Film: It’s a Contact Sport with New Holland in 2002.  Ticket to Ride: Lost and Found in America, described as more Midnight Cowboy than Breakfast at Tiffany’s, was published by Bantam for Random House in 2005.  Sarah also has a story in the travel anthology Take Me With You edited by Sarah Macdonald and published by Random House. Most recently she has edited the book Thanks for the Mammaries published by Penguin in March 2009.

DAS, Sushi

Born in India, Sushi Das migrated to Britain with her parents when she was five months old, and to Australia at the age of 28. She began her career as a journalist at Australian Associated Press and is now a senior writer at The Age. She holds a BA (hons) Hertfordshire University (formerly Hatfield Polytechnic) UK, and a post-graduate diploma of journalism, RMIT, Australia and her work has been recognised with two Melbourne Press Club Quill awards. Sushi Das’s memoir will be published by Random House Australia.

DATH, Justin

Justin D’Ath’s many books for younger readers have established him as an author with a flair for zany comedy.  His more recent titles include Hunters and Warriors, a bold contemporary novel for older teenagers, and Shaedow Master (Allen & Unwin), his first fantasy novel for young adults.  His recent ‘Extreme Adventure’ series includes Crocodile Attack, Bushfire Rescue, Shark Bait, Scorpion Sting, Spider Bite, Man Eater, Killer Whale and most recently Devil Danger. The series is to be made into a television series by SLR Productions. He is currently working on a new series for younger children called Mission Fox.

DAVIE, Judy

Judy has studied Exercise & Health and Fitness, Biology and Psychology as well as macrobiotic cooking and Food as Medicine.  Her sensible balanced approach to food, diet and health, together with her understanding of people and how to motivate makes her the perfect food coach and an inspiring presenter.  The Food Coach cookbook was published in 2004 and her latest publication, Read the Label; a book on deciphering the nutritional labels on food packaging was published by Random House.

DAVISON, Liam

Liam Davison has published four novels: The Veledrome, Soundings, The White Woman and The Betrayal, as well as a collection of short stories, The Shipwreck Party.  He has been shortlisted for numerous major literary prizes as well as winning the National Book Council’s Banjo Award for Soundings.

DE PIERRES, Marianne

Marianne de Pierres has won both Aurealis and Davitt awards from her science fiction and crime novels. Her Parrish Plessis series has been translated into eight languages and adapted into a Role Playing Game. She is now writing teen novels. DELANEY, Brigid

Brigid Delaney is a former lawyer turned journalist. She has been a staff writer and editor for The Sydney Morning Herald and worked in digital news and on the foreign desk at the Telegraph. Her writing has appeared in The Age, Martha’s Vineyard Gazette, and The Guardian. She has contributed a short story to Some Girls Do (Allen and Unwin, 2007) and an essay for Griffith Review’s Next Big Thing issue. Brigid’s book about young people and consumer culture called The Restless Life: Churning through Love, Work and Play was published by Melbourne University Press. She is currently based London, where she works as a feature writer for CNN.com and contributes to features and opinion pieces to Fairfax newspapers in Melbourne and Sydney.

DEVESON, Anne

Anne Deveson is an acclaimed writer, broadcaster and filmmaker whose work has largely focused on human rights issues.  Her films on Africa and South-East Asia have won three UN Media Peace Awards.  Anne’s bestselling book about her son Jonathan’s struggles with schizophrenia Tell Me I’m Here won the 1991 Human Rights Award for non-fiction.  In 1993 she was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to the media and mental health.  Her most recent book Resilience was published by Allen & Unwin, and will be followed by a book about Peace in 2012.

DIVAROREN, Demet

Demet Divaroren was born in Turkey and migrated to Australia with her family when she was six months old. She has a diploma in Professional Writing and Editing from Victoria University. Her short story You No Have English? appeared in Island magazine and Best New Australian Stories (Scribe). Demet’s first novel Orayt? was shortlisted for the Vogel/Australian award. She lives in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

Di’BARTOLO, Michele

Michele Di’Bartolo was born and raised in Brisbane.  After spending time in both Sicily and London, she has now returned to Brisbane where she works as a lawyer. The Sicilian Kitchen, published in September 2008 by the Lantern Imprint of Penguin Books, is her first book.   The Sicilian Kitchen was shortlisted for the Manuscript Award in the 2006 Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards.

DOBSON, Rosemary

Rosemary Dobson AO, was born in 1920.  She has published 13 books of poetry, and edited several anthologies.  Awards include The Sydney Morning Herald Award for Poetry, The Patrick White Award for Poetry, The Grace Leven Prize for Poetry and The Australia Council Writer’s Emeritus Award.  She was given an honorary Celebration by the National Library in 2000. Rosemary Dobson Collected, published by UQP in 2012, contains the complete collection of Rosemary’s poems.
