When Michael Shafran transplanted himself from his native New York to Sydney eleven years ago, he swapped one multicultural home for another. That was perfect training for his newly launched food project with Murdoch Books, The Melting Pot (www.themeltingpot.com.au) – an effort to create the first major crowd-sourced cookbook for Australia, focusing on how immigration is changing the country’s cuisine. When he’s not being a “recipe whisperer”, Michael writes for such top food publications as delicious, MasterChef Magazine and Cuisine, reviews for the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide, and runs his own food blog, Gosstronomy.com, for which he’s been named among the globe’s top 100 food Twitterers.
