Christopher Cheng
Christopher's first book was published late last century. Since then he has published historical fiction, narrative non-fiction and many picture books for children in Australia and Internationally; these include the novel New Gold Mountain, and the picture books One Tree (2019), the Imagineer (2021), Wombat (2021) and Old Fellow (2022). A former primary school teacher Christopher is a full time writer and holds a Master of Arts in Children’s Literature. In 2009 he was honoured with the Lady Cutler Award. He is Co-Chair of the International Advisory Council for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and created the international peer voted Crystal Kite Award. He is also an Ambassador for the National Centre of Australian Children’s Literature (NCACL). Christopher is a highly experienced speaker presenting his passion for children's books and for writing at conferences and festivals around the world to people of all ages.
His recent title, Bear and Rat (2021), which Kirkus Reviews describes as Simultaneously quietly soothing yet deeply empowering—a friendship tale for the ages, is published in many countries worldwide and is a loving tribute to his best friend, his wife, Bini.
He dwells in an inner-city Sydney terrace and is often heard to say that he has the best job in the world.
